I was born in Głogów, a city located in the Copper Belt region where the main employer is the state-owned KGHM mining and metallurgical company. Upon completing my middle school education, I decided to attend Technical High School No. 1 in Głogów with a major in metallurgical engineering. This program was meant to provide me with a stable future working at the Głogów copper smelter, which is the 7th largest copper producer in the world and the largest silver producer in the world. During my summer breaks, I worked in Norway doing various physical labor jobs related to carpentry and finishing work. Only in hindsight did I realize how much impact physical labor during my early years had on me. It taught me perseverance and helped shape my character.
During my four-year program, I completed two years of internships at KGHM, where I had the opportunity to learn about the mechanisms behind large-scale production and the organization of a massive workplace. After completing my high school education, I received a job offer from KGHM, but I declined. I felt that I could always return there, and while I was young, I wanted to try my luck elsewhere.
That's how I ended up in Krakow, where I pursued a part-time degree in petroleum and gas engineering at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. This was a dream come true for me: studying at one of the best universities in Poland in a highly demanding field that required an enormous investment of time and effort. In order to support myself, I had to find a job, and my first employment contract was with Play, a telecommunications company that sells phone and internet subscription packages. Among my friends, I was always known as a talkative person, so sales seemed like a natural choice for me. There, I learned how to handle customers, solve complex technical and personal problems, and work under pressure to meet sales targets and deal with stressed-out customers.
After a year in Krakow, I decided to move to Wrocław, where I continued working in sales but found myself in the banking sector. First, I worked as a customer advisor at ING, and then as a transactional advisor at BOŚ Bank. I still commuted to Krakow on weekends for my studies. After a year, I realized that I wanted to pursue a different path in life. I wanted to work for a large corporation to get closer to the true finance industry. That's how I ended up at BNY Mellon as a fund accountant. At the same time, I quit my studies at AGH and started studying finance and accounting at WSB University in Wrocław.
At BNY Mellon, I and my team were responsible for calculating NAVs for 112 funds of the Swedish bank SEB. My time at BNY Mellon was very fruitful. I was able to improve my skills and learn new things related to finance. I also participated in the first tests and projects involving many departments and people from Europe. I was promoted twice during my tenure, and I left BNY Mellon as a Lead Representative Fund Accounting (Supervisory) in the team valuing funds from the United Kingdom
